Wool dryer balls. I couldn’t wrap my mind around the idea that balls of wool could reduce the drying time of my clothes and fluff them simultaneously. What are these things?! They are reusable balls of wool, literally, that you toss in your dryer with wet laundry in place of dryer sheets. These biodegradable balls also claim to rid your laundry of static cling and sometimes pet hair during the drying process. 

What earned these balls “keeper” status in my book is that they actually reduce the amount of drying time of my laundry! Not only that, I can dry my sheets on a lower heat setting and they dry just as fast if not faster. If you’re missing the pleasant fragrance that your dryer sheets left behind, you have the option to scent these balls with essential oils. Different brands are better about holding scent than others. This set of balls did not come with a storage bag, many do, but that wasn’t something I was looking for. I do laundry every day so I keep mine in the dryer until the next load goes in. One thing to keep in mind is the sound these make. These balls are approximately 2 inches in diameter and create a muted tumbling noise when used for smaller loads of laundry. Larger balls probably generate a louder noise. 

I’ve been using these dryer balls for more than three months and I’m very happy with them. My only con is that sometimes they get lost in my sheets. You’ll understand when you dry your first set of sheets with them. There are many options when it comes to buying wool dryer balls. Size, color, ability to pick up pet hair, etc. Now that I understand how they work, I’m ready to invest in another set. Maybe smaller balls for my delicates? We’ll see.
