If you are looking for a free outdoor activity for your family, I recommend visiting your local nursery. The boys and I usually go during the week when its not as busy. The thinned-out crowds mean the boys can be a bit rambunctious and run through the aisles of plants without disturbing other shoppers. The nursery closest to us often has special activities just-for-kids on Saturdays that are free. The boys have participated in pumpkin painting, rock painting and the haunted straw maze, to name a few.
Weekend visits to the nursery together make it easier to plan our yard aesthetic together. It’s better than sending photos via text. Even the boys give input on which plants we should add, making our landscape even more a family effort. During the last visit to our local nursery, they were giving away a 6-pack of Bronze Leaf Begonia’s to the first 100 customers. Conveniently, there was a sale of 40% off flats of annuals (plants that only last one season) so we bought a flat of Begonia’s to add to our free Begonia’s.
Here’s a peak at the latest additions to our landscape. We had a rough rainstorm last night that beat up my baby Begonia’s.
