I started writing a touching blog post about Mother’s Day. Then I got up to go to the bathroom where I was joined by my youngest son Lincoln. I was hoping to use the time to sit in quiet and scroll through Instagram. He was mixing play-doh and politely said “no” when I asked for privacy. He danced around with play-doh in hand and sang a made-up song while I sat there waiting for him to leave. After a few minutes he left, and I began to scroll. Shortly after he left, he came back with his brother Parker. Parker brought his tablet and plopped it in my lap asking me to read a story to him. I told him I would after I finished using the bathroom, but he insisted. I began to get frustrated and then reminded myself that learning boundaries take time and patience.
I decided to note this experience instead of casually scrolling as a reminder of what motherhood is to me daily. They are still in here with me as I type these thoughts and Lincoln just hit Parker in the face with a bag of Cheetos. Parker is still asking me to read this story on the tablet.
Despite the lack of privacy and my patience being tested, they bring me so much joy. No matter what kind of day I have, it always gets better when I feel their tiny arms around my neck.
Having two under two, while common, is not for the faint of heart but it’s worth it once they are a little bit older and can play together. Now that the boys are two and four it’s not as chaotic. Keyword: As.
Today I am going to take it easy and enjoy lounging around the house with my loud and loving babies.
