Brian has gifted me Shades of Color wall calendars for the past three years. The calendars include Black History facts that celebrate African American history all year long, and the latest one I received features facts on the monthly artwork. This year I was excited to see that the artist was someone whose work I knew and admired. Artist Ernie Barnes! I was first introduced to his work as a child watching the television show “Good Times.” His iconic painting, “The Sugar Shack,” was used in the opening of “Good Times” during seasons 4 and 5, as well as for the cover of the 1976 Marvin Gaye LP “I Want You.” It’s not too late to nab a calendar or planner for the new year.
Happy 2022!
