I introduced this craft with “The Gingerbread Man” book. We read the story aloud together then we moved over to our crafting area. Once there, I listed all the “cool supplies” we’d be using and then showed them my samples. I demonstrated how to use the cotton swabs to dip into the votive holders that contained glue. I then helped them use the gluey swabs to glob glue wherever they wanted to place a pom or glitter. As always, the boys were encouraged to get creative and make their own designs.

Activity Objective
Build fine motor skills and express creativity
Step 1
Prep each gingerbread man by gluing on googly eyes. You can also use the googly eyes with the sticker backing but those can be tricky for little fingers
Step 2
Draw mouth onto Gingerbread Man with a marker (optional)
Step 3
Squeeze glue into ramekin and set cotton swabs to the side
Step 4
Place a few additional puffs and glitter in the center of the workspace within easy reach for the children
Step 5
Place, not glue, pom poms strategically on a couple of Gingerbread Men creating samples. Children should be encouraged to create Gingerbread Men with different designs using the crafting materials available.
